English

"One who keeps warming over what is old and, from it, comes to know what is new — such a person is fit to be a teacher." Confucius ties the qualification to teach not to sheer accumulation of facts, but to the living habit of revisiting old learning until it yields fresh insight — a reminder that mastery is measured by renewal, not by storage.

A Word for Today

An old notebook, reopened, often reveals how shallow the first reading was. This is not a failure of memory but a sign that present circumstances have quietly added a new layer to old knowledge. Progress does not always require new material — thinking again through what already sits on the desk is frequently enough to move understanding forward. The measure of being fit to teach, too, lies less in fresh vocabulary than in the ability to make old truths land freshly. The worn books deserve more time than the newly arrived ones.
