English

"To err and not correct it — that is the real error." Confucius shifts the weight of moral failure away from the mistake itself and onto the refusal to fix it. A single lapse is simply human; what compounds it into true fault is the stubborn unwillingness to look at it honestly and change course.

A Word for Today

The mistake itself is rarely the real problem; refusing to admit it once pointed out is. Owning a single lapse is far easier to live with than insisting, against the evidence, that nothing was wrong — the principle is simple, but swallowing pride in the moment rarely is. When something goes badly, the first move worth making is not an explanation but a repair; everything else can wait until after that. What a person does next often matters more than the original error.
