English

"The noble person is quick to grasp what is right; the petty person is quick to grasp what is profitable." The point is not that virtue and profit can never coexist, but that character reveals itself in which question rises first in the mind when a decision must be made — is this right, or is this merely advantageous?

A Word for Today

Facing a choice, notice which question surfaces first, is this worth it, or is this right. The two seem close, yet the paths they open are quite different over time. Wanting profit is not itself a fault, but when it always leads the way, judgment gradually narrows around it. Today, when a decision comes up, it is worth pausing to catch which question arrives first.
