戦争とは国家にとって重大事であり、人の生死が決まる場であり、国の存亡を左右する道である。だからこそ、軽々しく判断してはならず、深く見極めねばならない。『孫子』全篇の冒頭に置かれたこの一句は、戦を安易に始めることへの戒めであり、あらゆる戦略論の出発点となる緊張感を示している。

战争,是国家的大事,是关乎生死存亡的场域和道路,不可不认真审察。这是《孙子兵法》开篇第一句,统摄全书——它首先是一句对轻率开战的警告,也是一切战略思考应有的那份郑重与审慎的起点。

War is a matter of vital importance to the state—the ground of life and death, the path to survival or ruin. It must be thoroughly examined and never treated lightly. As the opening line of the entire Art of War, it sets the tone for everything that follows: not eagerness for combat, but the gravity with which any decision to fight must be weighed.

Facing a consequential decision, the danger is being carried forward by momentum or feeling rather than judgment. Whether it is a withdrawal, a dismissal, or a contract, pausing to genuinely treat the matter as weighty, rather than routine, already changes the quality of the choice. Taking something seriously is itself a form of strategy, independent of cleverness, resting only on whether it was given its due weight.
