志不彊者智不達、言不信者行不果。
訓読
志彊からざる者は智達せず、言信ならざる者は行果せず。
現代語訳
意志が強くない者は知恵が深いところまで届かず、言葉に誠実さがない者は行いを最後までやり遂げられない。墨子の「修身」篇は、才知や弁舌よりも先に、志を強く保つことと、言ったことに嘘をつかないことを人格の土台に据えた。技術や知識は、この土台の上にしか積み上がらないという教えである。
中文釋義
意志不坚定的人,智慧就无法通达深处;说话不讲信用的人,做事就无法坚持到底。墨子在《修身》篇中,把"志坚"与"言信"置于才智辩才之前,作为人格的地基——技艺与学问,唯有立在这地基之上才立得住。
English
One whose resolve is weak cannot carry wisdom through to its depths; one whose words are unreliable cannot carry action through to its end. In the "Self-Cultivation" chapter, Mozi places firmness of will and integrity of speech beneath cleverness and eloquence, as the foundation of character on which skill and knowledge can only be built afterward.

Skill and insight matter, but what usually holds them up are two unremarkable habits: finishing what one commits to, and not quietly discounting one's own word. It is worth checking for that foundation before stacking further ability on top of it. Impressive talent gets noticed for a moment; this plainer kind of reliability is what actually earns lasting trust from people over time.
