博學之，審問之，慎思之，明辨之，篤行之。

之を博く学び、之を審らかに問い、之を慎みて思い、之を明らかに弁じ、之を篤く行う。
現代語訳
誠に至るための具体的な修養の順序を五段にまとめたのがこの一句であり、直前の「誠者は天の道なり」に続けて、第二十章の後半で誠を求める者のなすべきことを述べた箇所にあたる。広く学び、詳しく問いただし、慎み深く考え、はっきりと道理を見分け、そして篤実に実行する——この五つが揃って、はじめて学問は身についた徳となる、と子思は説く。
中文釋義
此五句紧承"诚之者,人之道也"而来,为求诚之功夫立下次第:博学以广其识,审问以穷其疑,慎思以精其虑,明辨以正其惑,笃行以践其实。五者环环相扣,缺一不可——学而不问则陋,问而不思则浅,思而不辨则惑,辨而不行则虚。故此五者非孤立五事,乃诚之功夫由知入行之完整历程。

"Study it extensively, inquire into it accurately, think it through carefully, discriminate it clearly, and practice it earnestly." These five steps outline the full discipline of becoming sincere: learning without questioning stays shallow, and understanding without action remains empty — knowledge only matures into virtue once it is finally lived out.

学ぶこと、問うこと、考えること、見極めること、そして実際にやってみること——このうちどれか一つだけを繰り返していても、物事は身につかない。知識を集めるだけで終わらせず、最後は手を動かして試してみる。この五つの段階を丁寧に踏んでいくことが、遠回りに見えて実は一番早い道である。

A Word for Today
Learning without asking stays shallow; asking without thinking stays superficial; thinking without sorting out right from wrong leaves things muddled; sorting things out without ever acting on them keeps the understanding merely theoretical. Only by carrying learning, questioning, reflection, discernment, and practice through in full does knowledge actually become one's own. Skipping any single step tends to discount the value of all the others.
